“Since signing with my very first agency I have had to struggle with financial hardships—not because I wasn’t working, but because I wasn’t getting paid. One of the greatest issues for models is dealing with the lack of transparency between my agents and the clients when it comes to negotiated contracts and other specific details concerning wages. Oftentimes I have no idea of the agreed upon advertisement usage periods or the date in which the client will pay my agency. It has become normal to wait three to five six months before being paid for any job. I end up questioning the integrity of the client and my agents when I’m told ‘the client hasn’t paid yet’ months after I have checked on a payment date. Models have decided that we’ve had enough when it comes to the lack of professional integrity in our industry. The RESPECT Program is an initiative to protect models of all statures, but also to educate other industry professionals on how to be ethical on many fronts including sexual harassment. I’ve always been vocal about how the modeling and fashion industry needs fundamental change at its core. This time I’m not alone.”
